Piranku Pirarucu is a gigantic fish, about two metress in length.
The meat of the fish is consumed by the people and scales
are made inti key chains. Pirarucu reveals the story of a
local prise.
Pirarucu was the name of a prince of the Vaiás tribes. The
tribes was located in South western Amazon, on the
Lábrean plains. Despite the fact that his father, Pindaro,
was a capable ruler, Pirarucu was an arrogant self-centred
and merciless.
One day, Pindaro went to a near-by tribe for a friendly
visit, Pirarucu took over the commanding position. He
killed his fellow tribesmen without logical reason and also
criticized the gods. Tupā, the king of the god, was angry
with Piranu u. One day, Pirarucu went fishing along with
others along the Tocantins River. Tupă demanded Polo to
spread lightning over the area where Pirarucu was and
lururaruaçu, the goddess of torrents, to makes a downpour
over the ara. Pirarucu knew that the gods were against
him but his arrogance made him paid no attention to them.
Tupã then called upon Xandoré, the demon, to attack
aproud prince with lightning and thunder. It was then that
Pirarucu realized the situation and attempted to escape, in
vain, Xandaré lightning pierced his heart, His fellow men
hid in the jungle near-by out of fear. Pirarucu fell into a
gigantic, dark red fish. The fish was named after him.
